DISSEMBLING PROCEDURE
Base enclosure
Before disassembling the computer, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
Remove the base enclosure:
1. Turn the computer face down, and then remove the 4 Phillips PM 4.5 millimeter front-edge screws (1) from the base enclosure.
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
Remove the base enclosure:
1. Turn the computer face down, and then remove the 4 Phillips PM 4.5 millimeter front-edge screws (1) from the base enclosure.
2. Remove the 6 remaining
Phillips PM 5.5 millimeter screws (2) from the back and the middle of the
base enclosure.
3. Separate the bottom enclosure
from the unit at the rear edge and remove the bottom enclosure.
Battery
Before removing the battery, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the base enclosure.
Remove the battery:
1. Turn the computer right-side up, with the front toward you.
2. Disconnect the battery cable.
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the base enclosure.
Remove the battery:
1. Turn the computer right-side up, with the front toward you.
2. Disconnect the battery cable.
3. Remove the 3 Phillips PM 2×2
screws (1) that secure the battery to the top cover.
4. Remove the battery from the
computer (2).
RTC battery
Before removing the RTC battery, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the base enclosure.
5. Disconnect the battery cable.
Remove the RTC battery:
1. Disconnect the RTC battery cable from the system board (1)
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the base enclosure.
5. Disconnect the battery cable.
Remove the RTC battery:
1. Disconnect the RTC battery cable from the system board (1)
2. Remove the RTC battery (2).
(The RTC battery is attached to the system board by double-sided adhesive.)
Solid-state drive
Before removing the SSD, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the base enclosure
5. Disconnect the battery cable
Remove the solid-state drive:
1. Remove the 2 Phillips PM 2.0x2.0 screws (1) securing the solid–state drive to the top cover. The drive tilts upwards.
2. Remove the solid–state drive (2).
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the base enclosure
5. Disconnect the battery cable
Remove the solid-state drive:
1. Remove the 2 Phillips PM 2.0x2.0 screws (1) securing the solid–state drive to the top cover. The drive tilts upwards.
2. Remove the solid–state drive (2).
WLAN module
Before removing the WLAN module, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the base enclosure
5. Disconnect the battery cable
Remove the WLAN module:
1. Disconnect the #1 and #2 WLAN antenna cables from the WLAN module (1).
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the base enclosure
5. Disconnect the battery cable
Remove the WLAN module:
1. Disconnect the #1 and #2 WLAN antenna cables from the WLAN module (1).
2. Remove the 2 Phillips PM
2.0×3.0 screws (2) that secure the WLAN module to the top cover. (The
WLAN module tilts up.)
3. Remove the WLAN module by pulling the module away from the slot at an
angle (3).
Fan
Before removing the fan:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the base enclosure (see Base enclosure on page 29).
Remove the fan:
1. Disconnect the fan cable (1).
2. Remove the 2 Phillips PM 2.0x4.0 screws securing the fan to the top cover (2), and then lift the fan upwards (3).
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the base enclosure (see Base enclosure on page 29).
Remove the fan:
1. Disconnect the fan cable (1).
2. Remove the 2 Phillips PM 2.0x4.0 screws securing the fan to the top cover (2), and then lift the fan upwards (3).
